In the city

Out and about in the city today with camera. Saw this interesting gentleman and his dog. Asked if I could take his picture and he said yes. His name is Mihlawhdh Faristzadie and the dog is Winnie. Other street shots on Flickr (including one of the dog on his own)

Greece, 2008

I remember taking this. I was sitting in cafe in a small square, looked up and saw ... Now I'm no expert on electrics, but ...
I'm spending time re-visiting a lot of older stuff and doing a fair amount of post processing. Doing a lot of research into both photographers (from reportage and photojournalism to abstraction and minimalism and everything in-between) and technique to try to narrow down my focus, which is currently all over the place. WHY do I use a camera, WHEN do I want to use, and HOW should I do it!

Paris, 2005

The end of the working week, and the weather is looking good for the weekend.

Uluru, Australia, 2006

Another from the archive. Hard to believe it was over 4 years ago. The red colour is oxidation (rust). The black bits are caused by rain run-off. Also lots of caves. It actually rained when we were there (still bloody hot and lots of flies). The first rain in 9 months. Also note the blackened trees, the result of lightening strikes and bush fires. One that has been ticked-off the list.

For those who don't share My-Mind's-Eye, link to the original (colour, un-tweaked) image.

Skyspace

One from the archive. James Turrell's 'Skyspace' at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park . It was early on a Spring morning, nobody else around, the only sound the occasional sheep - a place for deep contemplation.
Also been fortunate enough to experience the 'Skyspace, at Kielder while it was snowing. The biggy would be someday to experience the Roden Crater. Turrell has been working on it since 1977. Word on the street is that it may open to the public for the first time in 2011. High on the long list of things-to-do-before-I-die!

Monday is washing day

Tried HDR today with limited success (the above image isn't, though it was shot in RAW). Need to do a lot more playing with the controls and some reading.

Ray of Light

A wander about the city yesterday in the sunshine with camera. Some reasonable shots, this one being my favourite. Downloaded Photomatix Pro, so hoping for some good sunsets this week to see what I can do with HDR.

Three generations

Not much been happening the last week. Easter break - out and about, visiting friends, painting. Finished the Arbus biography - dark stuff. "A compassionate renegade or an exploitative narcissist of decadent elegance" Michael Kimmelman, NY Times - you decide! In her own words "I really believe there are things which nobody would see unless I photographed them." A fitting epitaph I would suggest.
