This image has been dug out from the archives. It was my first time at Tate Modern and I was understandably blown away!

Knackered tonight! A heavy duty day. Meeting from 10am to 4pm discussing the last 15 years (I have been there 8) of lottery support for the arts in Scotland, with a view to informing how this will be taken forward within Creative Scotland.

I had to look to the archive to find a suitable image for today!
The last day of the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen. Tomorrow we move forward as Creative Scotland the new national development body for the arts, screen and creative industries. The mission to “invest in ideas, invest in talent, invest in education, and invest in places”. The intention that we will be more of a “rallying call” than an institution. We will be taking a holistic view at the contribution that the arts, screen and creative industries play in the quality of life and economy of Scotland. There will also be a new corporate identity and logo to reflect the new organisation.

I remember taking this. I was sitting in cafe in a small square, looked up and saw ... Now I'm no expert on electrics, but ...
I'm spending time re-visiting a lot of older stuff and doing a fair amount of post processing. Doing a lot of research into both photographers (from reportage and photojournalism to abstraction and minimalism and everything in-between) and technique to try to narrow down my focus, which is currently all over the place. WHY do I use a camera, WHEN do I want to use, and HOW should I do it!

Another from the archive. Hard to believe it was over 4 years ago. The red colour is oxidation (rust). The black bits are caused by rain run-off. Also lots of caves. It actually rained when we were there (still bloody hot and lots of flies). The first rain in 9 months. Also note the blackened trees, the result of lightening strikes and bush fires. One that has been ticked-off the list.

Skyspace

One from the archive. James Turrell's 'Skyspace' at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park . It was early on a Spring morning, nobody else around, the only sound the occasional sheep - a place for deep contemplation.
Also been fortunate enough to experience the 'Skyspace, at Kielder while it was snowing. The biggy would be someday to experience the Roden Crater. Turrell has been working on it since 1977. Word on the street is that it may open to the public for the first time in 2011. High on the long list of things-to-do-before-I-die!
